Spring 2011 has finally arrived and the fashion world is responding with vibrant new trends, the merging of favorites and of course as it always goes the extension of a trend or two from one season to another.

The pleasure about having a workable wardrobe lined with classic pieces, good fits and the correct colours and styles, is that it forms the perfect base to acquire but only a few trendy items, whether it is a signature style item or some quirky accessories, to refresh your wardrobe for the new season ahead.

Herewith a summary of the major SPRING 2011 fashion trends for you to decide what to pick for your wardrobe update.

Bold Colours
Throw away the darker colours of the past season together with any bleak recessionary after thoughts. Spring is all about feeling re-energized, uplifting yourself and being excited about positive and warmer times ahead. This is represented by popping colours such as violet purple, sunset red, hot blue, cerise pink, neon orange and other vivid citrus brights. Wear it as plain separates such as colored skinny jeans or as carefree floral prints which is also a huge trend this spring.

The Trousers
From the straight and narrow to the super wide slouch and the glamorous 70’s inspired high-waist or figure flattering flare  – everything goes. Watch out especially for the rolled above the ankle or new cropped length, allowing a focus on fantastic footwear.

Earn Your Stripes
This trend is not necessarily a nautical one, but more about stripes – White and Navy, or White and Black – dominating an outfit.
Wear your stripes as a top, a hat, a sexy mini-dress, but please, not all at once! If you have a fuller figure, rather opt for vertical instead of horizontal stripes.

Influencing Elements of Punk
Before grabbing a shaver to create the perfect Mohawk hairstyle, we are not implying that you should adopt a full blown, rebellious punk style, but rather to be aware of punk inspired elements being mixed with other seasonal trends. Look out for studded embellishments, safety pin accessories, biker or combat boots and be daring to mix these with ultra feminine styles.

Biker Chicks Rule
Now that the military trend has finally left us, a new player is moving in – The Biker Chic trend.
The motorcycle jacket is the key statement piece for the biker fashion trend and think of different colours besides just black. Biker pants are another key element in pinning down your look and it’s all about the detail. Last season’s plain leather leggings are out – we are now talking panels, quilting and padding, and zips all add to the tough yet ultra-slick and modern feel of the pant.

Is the above to extreme for your taste? Simply opt for a signature pair of motorcycle boots – a pair that exudes quality and style, even Chanel makes them!

Easy Going Accessories
Crochet, Macramé and Tassels are also making a comeback this season. Bags, hats, belts, and even platform sandals and wedges made of these creative knitting techniques. Mix them up with stripes for a very trendy feel. A good place to search for vintage number is in granny’s wardrobe!

Amongst the above trends, you will also find minimalistic white-on-white ensembles, 60’s inspired longer length full skirts, plunging necklines and psychedelic prints.
