Simple Steps for taking control of your finances in 2012
These simple steps can make a difference in a woman's financial status at the end of next year!
Do your budget
A detailed budget (that you can hide away from everyone, if you want) but be HONEST with yourself. Know what is coming in and what is going out… and to where!
Update/Do your Will
This is the best gift you can leave your loved ones. The last thing they need or deserve is to fight for what is rightfully theirs, or heavens forbid, the kids are shipped from one family member to the next!
Have your important documents together – one copy at your home – where the family will know where to find it and a SECOND set at either your Attorney or Financial Advisor. This is to ensure that if the documents at home get destroyed, you have a back-up
Make CERTIFIED copies of ID’s, birth certificates, marriage contracts, divorce agreements etc.
Ensure you have updated/corrected the beneficiaries on your policies – you might still have an ex-spouse or parent on there. Remember children under the age of 18 will not get the monies – their guardian or trust will be the recipient
Make sure you have the latest benefits on your policies. Some companies automatically upgrade the benefits when there are changes – others require your signature to do this
Lastly and VERY important: Do a bit of financial planning for 2012. Don’t just live and survive from month to month. Set simple, realistic, measurable goals to achieve throughout the year and make a difference in your financial life, one step at a time!
