The Five Keys to Health Gone Wrong
If the Five Keys To Health are not being addressed, what usually follows after a few years is a disease of great proportion called Leaky Gut Syndrome. If not treated, this condition leads one to heightened health risk and, over time, a whole new range of pain and suffering.
Leaky Gut Syndrome is so catastrophic that I concluded, after years of experience with thousands of patients, that it is the single most significant physical factor causing health problems in our society today.
To fully understand Leaky Gut Syndrome, let’s quickly review the Five Keys and then take a look at how a breakdown in these keys leads to the malfunction of the intestine. The Five Keys are:
1. Having food in your diet that is rich in nutrients, and that you are not sensitive to.
2. Fully digesting or breaking down the food.
3. Absorbing the digested nutrients through the intestine into the blood stream.
4. Correctly supplementing your diet and transporting these nutrients throughout the body so that you have an abundant and balanced pool of nutrient building blocks.
5. Making sure there is no nerve interference from your brain to your body, especially your digestive system and your intestines.
With the Five Keys in place, you are able to properly replenish your body with an abundance of nutrients.
Unfortunately, I rarely saw a woman with all of the Keys in place. What I learned was that 99 percent of my patients were not digesting and absorbing their food properly. As a result, they had deficiencies and imbalances of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes needed for normal body function. And this leads to body troubles.
But that is only part of the story. The intestine has another vital responsibility, which is to keep harmful material such as indigested food, toxins, poisons, parasites, yeasts, moulds and bacteria out of the bloodstream. The intestine carries out this function with the use of a protective membrane designed to let through only what the body needs to perform its normal functions. Therefore, under normal circumstances, undigested food does not get through the intestine into the bloodstream. Instead, it is transported out as waste.
If you think about this, it does make sense. You can’t just put a whole steak or a piece of broccoli into the bloodstream. It wouldn’t work. The steak and broccoli have to be chewed up and broken down into all their smaller nutrients before the bones, muscles or organs can use any part of them.
So anytime food is not properly broken down, the job of the intestine is to keep it out of the bloodstream and eliminate it as waste. This causes excess waste and a reduced replenishment of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, etc.
Now, it would be a problem if wasted food and reduced replenishment were the only negative results of undigested food, but it wouldn’t be nearly as horrific as I have suggested in this chapter. Unfortunately, this undigested food causes much more trouble than it might appear.
Undigested food collects and binds together in a sludge-like mass as it moves through the intestine. This sludge causes abrasion, irritation, swelling and tearing inside the intestine. Additionally, the undigested food can become lodged inside and putrefy, leading to further toxicity, irritation and selling.
This wear and tear makes it next to impossible for the intestine to perform its normal functions. Additional factors such as nerve interference as well as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, steroids and other drugs also contribute to intestinal degeneration. But undigested food is the biggest problem!
Leaky Gut Syndrome is a disease that comes about after years of intestinal bombardment by indigested food sludge. Over time the intestine becomes so broken down that the normal openings for absorption become enlarged.
With these openings enlarged, the intestine now permits, or leaks, undigested food into the bloodstream that is not supposed to be allowed in. Under normal circumstances these particles would definitely be kept out. Additionally, because of this leaking, other harmful agents such as toxins, poisons, parasites, yeasts, moulds and bacteria can be mistakenly allowed in as well. And worse yet, these harmful agents are spread all over the body by the blood.
The War Between the Immune System and Undigested Food
Once particles of undigested food are allowed into the bloodstream, a series of events is set into motion that causes a whole new level of nutrient depletion!
What occurs next is that the immune system gets involved. The immune system is somewhat like the FBI. It is constantly scanning and monitoring the contents of the blood to pick up anything that can be harmful to the body.
Normally, the food that travels into the bloodstream is properly digested and therefore is allowed throughout the body by the immune system.
However, undigested food is handled very differently. After undigested food particles get into the bloodstream, certain foods are labeled as intruders by the immune system similar to the way it would label a poison, and allergen or a bacteria.
I am not certain as to why some foods are labeled as intruders and other foods are not, but I believe it has something to do with the frequency and the amount of the food that is eaten. If a person with Leaky Gut Syndrome eats a large quantity of a certain food at every meal, it is likely that he or she may develop immune system sensitivity to that food.
After the immune system spots this intruder, it attacks with white blood cells, antibodies and other forms of defense.
At first, you may think that the immune system attacking the undigested food is a good thing because you wouldn’t want any of the intruders roaming around freely inside your bloodstream. That is certainly a correct way of thinking. However, this attack is much more harmful to your health than it first appears. What follows is a terrible war that ends up costing your body a vast quantity of its nutrient building blocks.
Every time your body makes a white blood cell or antibody, it has to use some of its nutrient building blocks. In other words, your body uses the proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc. from your own pool of nutrient building blocks to make the white blood cells and antibodies that are used to fight the war against the undigested food particles.
So, now you have two strikes against you. First, your body is not being replenished because your food is not being digested and the nutrients from the food cannot be absorbed. Second, your body has to use the nutrients it has in storage to fight this war against the undigested food that has now errantly gotten into the bloodstream. So, you lose on both ends.
Why Food Sensitivities are So Harmful
How seriously can this war affect a person? Well, how often do you eat the food that you eat? If you are eating sensitive foods two to five time per day, that means the immune system will be using up your storage of nutrients to fight this war almost all the time. Each time you eat a sensitive food, it is like pouring gasoline on a fire because that food triggers the attack by the immune system. What this means is that every time you put that food into your system the body goes to war, and since you eat that food very often, your body is at war, to a greater or lesser degree, all the time.
Thus, the immune system is constantly stripping your pool of nutrient building blocks to fight a war against the food you are eating. Imagine how much nutrient depletion occurs from such a constant war, and you will be able to see why people with Leaky Gut Syndrome have such an abundance of health problems.
There is one more factor that increases the devastation of Leaky Gut Syndrome. These undigested foods and other toxins, poisons, moulds, etc. are transported throughout the body in the bloodstream. This means that the immune system will be required to fight this war all over the body. The number of white blood cells and antibodies required to fight this war all the time and everywhere is so enormous that it is impossible to calculate. Because of this constant requirement for immune system activity, the body is stripped of its nutrient building blocks at an alarming rate.
As this continues, your body becomes increasingly scarce in vitamins, minerals, proteins and other building blocks. Because of this scarcity, you then do not have enough nutrient building blocks for normal everyday function. This is a very dangerous situation, because you can reach a point where there are so few nutrients available that normal body functions are sacrificed just to handle the undigested food. When this occurs, the heart, lungs, muscles, brain and other organs are left without the nutrients they need to perform their normal functions. It is at that point that the body will start to show the signs and symptoms of disease.
So, Leaky Gut Syndrome causes a person’s body to be like a sieve. Imagine trying to replenish all the necessary nutrients into a body that has Leaky Gut Syndrome. In my experience, it is very difficult to accomplish this magnitude of nutrient replenishment because the body loses its nutrients faster and in greater quantity than you can possibly put them back. This is the most vital body problem to solve because it devastates and destroys the nutrient building block pool, which supplies the materials needed for the rest of the body to function correctly.
This is the disease that ends health once and for all. If it goes uncorrected, chronic disease will follow. The best way to address Leaky Gut Syndrome is to fully address the Five Keys to Health. With these Five Keys in place, you can maximize nutrient replenishment and reduce nutrient depletion. Just by accomplishing those two things, Leaky Gut Syndrome can be corrected and your health can be restored.
Thus, if you follow all these steps correctly, you will have the best chance to possess all the nutrient building blocks available, and they will be in good balance. Your nerves will be able to carry all the orders from the brain out to the organs, glands, muscles, etc. so that those areas will function correctly.
