The myth of the starving artist has finally been dispelled. Today, choosing a career in a creative industry doesn’t mean being doomed to a life of poverty, but rather choosing to earn a living from your craft can result in you living quite comfortably.
There are many advantages to pursuing a creative career, but perhaps the biggest advantage is the ability to freelance. Freelancing means being your own boss, setting your own working hours, and rates, and choosing the projects and clients you take on. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows though – not knowing how much you’ll be earning each month can be stressful. But if you’re someone who’s willing to take a risk to be able to reap the rewards, now is the time to start building up that portfolio and making a creative career a real possibility.
If you’re interested in utalising your creativity to further your career, consider the UCT Graphic Design short course, UCT Web Design short course, UCT Content Marketing short course and UCT Digital Photography short course.
