The Internet is about saving time, and therefore saving money, and the potential of the Internet has barely been tapped. New methods of taking advantage of efficiencies are become widely accepted as access to high-speed broadband Internet connections become commonplace. Users of the Internet (both business and consumer) are multiplying around the globe, and many companies are earning terrific profits in the process of serving those users.

Users of the Internet (both business and consumer) are multiplying around the globe, and many companies are earning terrific profits in the process of serving those users.

South African Internet users will double to almost 10 million in the next 5 years!
Recent Nielsen research reveals that business to business advertising on the internet grew by 110% last year. Time spent surfing and communicating on the web is now around 35%-40% of people’s time. The US Internet population will grow to around 200 million web users in 2009.
Internet is now used at home by 68% of UK adults — the penetration rate continues to climb several percentage points each year. In South Africa we have 4,6 Million Internet users as of Dec ’08 - that’s almost 10% of our population, and around 380,000 broadband internet subscribers as of beginning 2009.


Irrevocable trends and shifts
Research reveals a trend away from TV to the WEB.  Around 35% of the TV viewers are now more regular Web viewers. Youtube.com delivers millions of videos each day.  There are hundreds of millions of searches per day on Google alone, where people are looking for information, services, products, help, entertainment, etc . . .  . 

Did you get that? Hundreds and thousands to millions of people are searching and looking!  If you are not on the top 30-40 listings of Google – you are irrelevant and invisible to these people!
To whom would you like to try to sell your services?  The next person passing who may have no interest in your products? To some reader of a magazine? To some TV viewer or radio listener? Or maybe even to some spam email recipients? 

Most of these people may have zero interest in your product or service – so why spend thousands to blast your message at uninterested people.... just because an advertising sales person or ad agency designer suggests it’s the BEST way? Not any more!

Implications...? The world and the way we work are changing by the second. Almost 25%... that’s 1,6 BILLION people are connecting on the web . . . . searching, sharing, communicating, researching and buying information, goods and services via the web. How much of this market are you enjoying? 


The REAL Risk   
If you don’t have some basic understanding / knowledge of the web, you will fall prey to those that do have.  It’s very simple - the more you know, the less you can end up paying for their products and services.

I can see a time in our very near future, where:
•    2 billion plus (That’s one third of the planet) are connected.  Trillions, not billions of searches each day for products and service
•    More than 50% of people’s spare time is web based
•    Advertising models for small/medium business will be predominantly web based.
•    You will use Google for just about everything you need . . . More information, best prices, special offers, how to, who has, etc. Google has almost replaced the wonderful YELLOW PAGES. (Have you noticed how much thinner the yellow pages are?)
•    Every business will NEED to be on the web to grow. Smart one’s are already web active.

Get web active on a personal and private level. The web is pervasive and progressive.  Soon you will require web skills in your work/job. Every home can benefit from web access.  Make sure you can keep up and leverage the power and opportunity of this change.
