Got no idea how to start?

Your Business

All ready to start a business…but lack a good idea? Don’t panic! Here are 6 budget friendly ideas for prospective business women.

1.    Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistants are independent entrepreneurs who work remotely and use technology to deliver services to clients globally. Most work from their home offices and receive their project instructions by phone, fax, e-mail or even sms. Many  virtual assistants offer secretarial services, but as more people with diverse skills enter the market, virtual assistants specialising in graphic and Web design, marketing, IT support or even translations are becoming more common. To become successful, you need a good marketing strategy in addition to that phone, laptop and Internet connection.
Some say the virtual assistant industry has become so popular because it helps women become entrepreneurs yet also achieve a work/life balance. There is an increase in demand for these kind of services, start-up costs are minimal and the profit potential is good.

2.    Consultant
Getting into consulting is relatively simple. All you have to do is use your specific skills and know how to do it better than others, and be able to either teach people how to do it or be willing to do it for them. Networking is the key to success in this business, so start by making a list of everyone you know and giving them all a call. Start-up costs are also relatively small.

3.    Professional Organizer
People are so busy these days and there is just no time for admin or even sorting out that sock drawer. Here is a perfect opportunity to come in at a reasonable rate and get houses and offices organised. There are professional organisations that you can join when you're ready. Mostly it takes common sense, organisational skills and know what’s on offer at the local office supply store.

4.    Webpreneur
Since the .com boom everyone has dreamt of making their fortune on-line. Well, you too can get in on some of the action. Pick a subject matter that you know a lot about, register a domain and create a website. Ensure that the website looks professional and not like a “flea market” selling all kinds of services/products. Next, provide plenty of original content based on your knowledge. You can also turn your knowledge into e-books and sell them on your site. Next, find appropriate affiliate programs as this is where your revenue will be generated from. You also need to learn everything you can about search engine optimisation (SEO) and then advertise your site at every opportunity you can get.

5.    Personal Services
This is a lot like the Professional Organiser but this service involves running errands and shopping for people. This is particularly popular among the Corporate Woman trying to balance her work and personal life.  This service is very popular during the Christmas Season. Trustworthiness and dependability are the key traits for this. If you or your car is not reliable, then this is not for you. Use cards that offer cash back rewards or frequent flyer miles, and you'll make a nice little bonus for yourself.

6.    Desktop Publishing
It's amazing how many people have a computer and still don't know how to make a decent flyer! If you've got a good design sense, know your way around the software, and have a laser or high-quality inkjet printer, you can get into desktop publishing. Create a really great-looking portfolio for yourself and start networking.

It's unlikely any of these ideas will make you rich overnight, but they all have the potential to grow into full-time businesses.  Please remember that before you make your choice, you need to research every aspect of the business and then pick one that suits you best.

However, the key to a really successful business is finding YOUR niche in the marketplace.  You need to find out what YOU are passionate about and then hone your strengths and turn it into a business that has a unique selling proposition – YOU.

When you do what you love…the money will follow…

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service allowing the energy of the Universe to lead you” ~ Oprah Winfrey
