Create Your Own Life

There is no guarantee that your life will turn out exactly the way you want, but if you know how to design your life, you have a better chance of it turning out how you want.

An author starts with a table of contents. To be able to create is a powerful feeling – the imagination of the author makes the book take shape. Can a woman really design her own life in the same way the author designs a book or a landscaper designs a garden? We can’t design every facet of our lives as there are certain fixed and certain variable aspects: we cannot change our upbringing and all that went on before you came to this knowledge of an ability to design your life. What happened in the past shaped who you are today – you will need to start designing your life from here on forward. The bad news is that the best designed plans can still go wrong.

You can’t control the past and you can’t control the future, so what can you control if you want to be in charge of your own life? You can make a plan today, you can work your plan every day and you can adjust your plan when necessary. When you get what you don’t want, you can make the best of it.

The following points may help you as you take on the lifetime project of designing their life:

1. Design
The design for your life can be like the author’s table of contents. You set clear goals and map out a plan of action on how you reach every goal. Possibly start with your ideal job and how you will get from where you are to where you want to be. Then you can plan your personal life, relationships, friends, children, house, hobbies, and whatever else you put in your plan.

On a personal level we each carry within us what we might consider to be a life movie script, a template for our personal reality. It is our story and will become our history over time. You can let the story be told as it is or you can learn to edit, mould and direct the story to match your growing awareness of who you are and how you want to be.

2. Focus
After you’ve created your plan, you need to get into the right mindset before you take action. The power of your imagination, your positive thoughts, your commitment and your  focus on your plan will improve your chance of success in each area you take action in. You need to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. You must sustain the thoughts that will support your plan. Eliminate distractions and always focus on the end result.

3. Action
With your plan in place and your mind set on success, you are now ready to take the actions necessary to construct your life as you want it. If you want to change your job, your first action may be to set up meetings with people who have that job, so you can get guidance. Next may be to enrol for classes that will increase your skill levels necessary for the career move.
Keep following the action steps you put in your design.

4. Maintenance
Did the meetings provide you with all you needed to know or do you need to have some more? Do you have time to study for the classes you’re taking? It is always a challenge while holding a full time job. Are you on an internship/ entry level in your new field and the time has come to ask for a promotion? To stay motivated, keep monitoring your progress toward your goals. Enjoy and celebrate the small successes . . . each success is one step closer to your ultimate life design.

5. Corrections
Make corrections, adjust for change, re-examine your actions and your goals. Find a way around obstacles.  If they show up often, maybe you’re on the wrong course. If so, re-assess your goal to make sure it’s what you really want, establish some new actions that will get you back on the path, even a different one.

6. Support
As you design your life, you may require a team that can include coaches, mentors, teachers, associates, partners, and whoever else can help you achieve your goals.
Review your plan on a regular basis, adjust for changes, and always reward yourself for your progress. With these tools in your toolbox, you’re on your way to designing your own life.

You can become the Creator of your own life, instead of being a Victim of life. It means taking this path of intentional response-ability for yourself.

You can choose new life enhancing beliefs and begin to act on them and watch the evidence of them begin to appear and grow . . . until it is clear that your new consciously chosen beliefs have become your reality and existence as a basis for even further growth and refinement.
