Nuts make very good snacks. They are not just flavourful, but highly portable, easy to consume and super healthy for you. Nuts such as almonds, walnuts and cashews are rich in good fats, omega 3 and vitamin E. Try to restrict your portions to a handful and you will be good to go. Nuts are their most nutritious when they are not salted so, keep the seasoning to a minimum. It is also wise to go for raw nuts as much as you can because the oils used to roast them can be dodgy for your health.

This is another snack that is very easy to have on the go because you can basically have it anywhere and anytime. Yogurt is full of protein, calcium and the right kind of carbohydrates. It has been proven to be an effective after work out snack because protein helps to repair your muscles, while carbohydrates provide energy. Yogurt also, contains good bacteria which are essential to your digestive system. This bacteria helps your digestive system function properly, and can help with issues such as bloating and diarrhoea. You can also add some nuts or fruit to your yogurt to boost taste and nutrients. The best is of course unflavoured yogurt, as it contains no sugar.

Fresh apples

Apples are a super fruit in their own right. They are rich in fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants. This makes them a great go to healthy snack to keep you on the go. You can cut up some slices and eat them with berries and yogurt or just munch on them on their own. Apples can also help you meet your weight-loss goals. Varieties such as granny smith and golden delicious are quite low in calories yet help you feel fuller for longer, thanks to the fibre that they provide. One another benefit of apples are their cleaning effect on your teeth. We simply cannot reach for the toothbrush after every meal so an apple is the next best thing. Chewing an apple, especially the more sour kinds stimulates saliva production, which wash out tooth decaying bacteria.

Popcorn is great because unlike chips and crackers, you can have a bowl full of them without consuming too many calories. Popcorn is a wholegrain, therefore super healthy. It is loaded with antioxidants and fibre. Fibre assists with good digestion as well as to giving you that full feeling for longer. You should try to season it as little as possible because salt can cause bloating and margarine is full of trans fats. You can air pop your popcorn in a pot and pre-pack it for work or a busy day. This snack is guaranteed to keep your cravings at bay.

Peanut butter

Peanut butter seems much less healthier than it actually is. This sandwich spread is not only packed with unsaturated fats like peanut oil, but protein, potassium, and fibre as well. You can enjoy it on a sandwich made of wholegrain bread for lunch. It is also delicious to munch with some apple slices between meals. If you are a really big fan of peanut butter, you can enjoy it on its own as well. It will give you an instant nutrient boost. You should however, remember to restrict yourself to about 2 spoons a day or it will be more fattening than nutritious.

Green tea

Chuck out your energy drinks and brew yourself some green tea instead. Green tea contains less calories and sugar, yet provides you with the caffeine that you need to keep going. Green tea does not come with the jitters and heart palpitations that are often experienced from drinking coffee and energy drinks. It does however, boost brain function as well as improve your mood.
