Toni Gomes started the South African branch of Business Professional Women International in South Africa, partnered by the Department of Trade & Industry and UN-Women. She is the current President & CEO. Her task was to get the organisation up and running and to conceptualise economic empowerment programmes for women, fundraise and generally run the organisation.
Toni has over 20 years experience in the non profit sector, including 10 years as Executive Director of an International NGO where she raised funds through various international events such as banquets, concerts, sporting events, etc. She was trained and certified to run a businesswomen’s Organisation by the Deutche Geselschaft fur Internationale Zuammenarbeit in Germany.
She also runs the Women on Boards development programme. Previous positions include Executive Director of Ster Kinekor Theatres and Executive Director of Variety International.
Toni received the BPW International “Best President Award” for excellent performance as well as a certificate of appreciation presented by UN Secretary General Pumzile Hlambo-Ncuka for “Dedication and Outstanding Service” to BPW International.
She has been nominated for “Africa’s Most Powerful Woman in Business and Government” Award in 2014 . She was also nominated for the “Power to Make a Difference” Leadership Award and in the same year nominated as Chairperson of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles BPW International Committee.
Toni received an award from HRH Prince Phillip for media collaboration.
She has made international presentations on women’s empowerment in Germany, Egypt, Tunisia, Ethiopia, London, Chicago, Beverly Hills and Barbados. Toni has written many international magazine articles on women’s empowerment and has extensive experience in the film and television industry.
Toni’s life purpose is to leave a legacy – to have done something positive and her calling is to help and improve others that need it.
She still needs to accomplish so much and wants to see change in respect to women in senior positions.
