Are you one of those people who rebel against the idea of exercise? Does the thought of strenuous exercise make you breakout in a sweat? Fear not, something as simple as walking can whip your butt right back into shape. Now, instead of just taking a random walk and shooting the breeze, plan it to make it a form of exercise where you can get something from it. Here are a few criteria that will qualify your mundane stroll to an exercise walk:
Your walk has to be for a certain amount of time. Decide for yourself how long you would like to walk. Ideally, anywhere between 20 minutes and above qualifies as an exercise
Try to make and maintain a certain distance for all of your walks. This way you can monitor how far you are able to walk. Measuring the distance can also inspire you to try and go further each time you walk.
Choose your route
Try to choose a route that you will benefit from. Meaning, do not make your walk too easy by sticking to a flat route. Start easy then progress to a route that goes uphill. The steepness will strengthen your calves and will gradually become easier as you get used to the incline.
You do not have to necessarily stick to the same route; you can change it up in order to venture out into new areas of your neighbourhood, but try to make it a bit difficult to get something out of it. The other great thing about these kinds of walks is that you can drag your friends or family to come with you. Get them to join you and make it a group thing. This is not a must, but it’s a fun way to get your whole family or friends into a healthy lifestyle.
No more excuses
You cannot use the “getting healthy costs money” excuse in this situation. Walking will boost your energy levels and the fresh air will do wonders for you.
Try to motivate yourself to keep at walking as an exercise routine (not because you have to get somewhere) and you will see the difference it makes to your life. Your health is one of the most important things; you need to take care of it.
